Construction of Westown Shongweni begins at the end of August with the upgrade of Kassier Rd, a project that will be headed up by the main contractor Stefanutti Stocks.
This upgrade will involve two new bridges and the total make-over of the two-lane Kassier Rd across the M13 and N3 into four lanes with a centre median, with intersection signalisation at key points.
Westown is the first development activity within the Shongweni Urban Development, an Ethekwini catalytic project of over 2 000 hectares. The Kassier Rd upgrade forms part of the overall R733 million infrastructure investment in roads and services needed to enable this development. R600 million of this will be funded by the eThekweni Municipality.
Running in tandem with the Kassier Rd upgrade is the earthworks component of Westown Square. This 45 000m² retail hub is designed in a high street style with an emphasis on big gardens, wide walkways, and an experience supportive of the Shongweni green belt. Construction of this trigger phase of Westown will begin in September 2022 for completion by September 2024.
Stefanutti Stocks are part of a stellar local development team who are eager to get moving on this ground-breaking, locally-driven initiative.
